Warner Bros financed the modestly budgeted family film at $13.5 million and planned on a platform release to eventually go wide. Warner Bros opened Flipped in the US in 45 theaters to a less than impressive $224,233 with a $4,983 per screen average. Warners canceled a wide release after two weeks of soft showings and opened Flipped in a few new markets, including New York after the initial test markets fizzled. The film didn’t catch on in the new markets either and after 6 weeks Warner Bros expanded the picture into 442 theaters to a poor $481,438 with a per screen average of $1,089 for the weekend. Flipped dropped 62.8% the following weekend and closed its run with only $1,755,212. A small marketing spend in the low millions added to the red ink. Flipped was released in just a couple of markets outside the US straight to video.
