Christopher Mallick financed the $22 million Middle Men production about HIMSELF! As one of the pioneers of the online porn business, Middle Men chronicles the rise and fall of his story and despite being a vanity project of epic ego proportions, Middle Men earned mixed to positive reviews. Paramount Vantage signed on as distributor with Mallick financing the marketing spend. Middle Men had a modest, but still pricey ad spend with TV spots, print and a heavy advertising presence on porn sites, where the trailer was viewed over 30 million times. This vanity project backfired when the film opened in 252 theaters to a terrible $325,641 with a $1,292 per screen average. Paramount’s plans to expand the film to 2,000 theaters were scrapped when the film dropped a huge 70.5% in its second weekend still in 252 theaters making $96,198. Middle Men quickly vanished after three weeks with only $754,301 at the US box office. Shortly after the film’s disastrous run, Christopher Mallick would have his new cash cow ePassporte closed down when it was found out he stole from his own company to fund part of the film and would find himself with a $12 million judgement a few years later. Middle Men went straight to video overseas in the few territories it found distribution.
