The Spy Next Door box officeRelativity financed this $28 million family comedy staring Jackie Chan and distributed The Spy Next Door through Lionsgate in the US, with Relativity covering the entire prints and advertising costs.  Lionsgate sold the film to international distributors.  The film underperformed opening weekend at the US box office with $9,726,056 — when Avatar led the box office in its fifth weekend in release and behind the family pic Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel in week four.  The Spy Next Door fell 52.9% in its second weekend to $4,584,524 when The Tooth Fairy took most of the family audience that weekend and it closed its run with $24,307,086.  Relativity would see back about $13 million after theaters take their cut, leaving a portion of the ad spend at a loss and the theatrical receipts would not put a dent in the budget.  Overseas, The Spy Next Door performed very poorly for the international star and pulled in a weak $20.9 million across numerous distributors.
