Blu-Ray Releases for April 12, 2016

In an interview with Vulture in 2011, director John Carpenter was quoted: “I’m really not passionate about Village of the Damned. I was getting rid of a contractual assignment, although I will say that it has a very good performance from Christopher Reeve, so there’s some value in it.” On that note, this terrible remake opened a mere two months after Carpenter’s In The Mouth Of Madness flopped and Universal booked this $22 million (estimated) pic into 1,890 theaters. Village Of The Damned opened against Friday, the Chuck Norris kid pic Top Dog and the fiasco Destiny Turns On The Radio. It placed #5 with a poor $3,222,450 — when While You Were Sleeping won the box office in its second frame. Audiences did not like what they saw any more than critics and gave Village Of The Damned a miserable C cinemascore. The film left theaters with only $9,418,365. A year after its domestic run, Universal dumped it straight to video in the UK.
