Stone Village co-financed the $30 million Runner Runner with New Regency and director Brad Furman apparently lost control of the project during production and editing of the film was a mess. William Goldenberg, who recently took home the Oscar for editing Argo, was called in to do an uncredited salvage job to get Runner Runner into releasable condition. FOX distributed the film worldwide and opened the troubled pic in the US against Gravity and Runner Runner placed #3 for the weekend pulling in a poor $7,706,712. Critics gave the movie poor notices and audiences gave the film a toxic C cinemascore and it fell 51.1% in its second frame to $3,770,288 and quietly closed its run with $19,316,646. Runner Runner saw slightly better results in the international market, where most markets posted mediocre to poor numbers, pulling in $43.3 million. The worldwide total was $62.6 million, leaving Fox with about $34.4 million after theaters take their percentage of the gross, which would leave much of the worldwide P&A spend in the red and no cash overages to flow back to the financiers.
